Denise,

I haven’t had any luck with finding the ship or ships my Irish ancestors came to America on but I did find out a lot about them in Ireland. A “lot” is relative because Irish records are so skimpy.

I knew my clan of Gorman brothers came from Clogheen, Tipperary and they showed up in America between the Irish census of 1821 and an Alabama census in 1830.

A “for hire” researcher in Ireland found nothing definite so it wasn’t really useful. A year or two later I hired “Off The Beaten Track” in Ireland and they were in the Clogheen area of Tipperary. This time I was able to give them names of five brothers and I got a BINGO. The researcher photographed the original parish baptism records with her cell phone and there were four of the brothers with mother and father.

I still have unknowns but this was a big help for less than $100. I now have their mother’s maiden name, her birth and death dates, where she is buried, etc.

My 2nd great grandfather was the oldest and the youngest was 16 years behind him. All are accounted for in Alabama and Arkansas but the mystery remains of WHEN they left or arrived and did they all come on the same boat.

Hopefully some of this will help your search.

Hi. I am trying to find out where husband's ancestors came from in Ireland.
We believe it to be somewhere in Kilkenny. The parents were John and Mary
Flynn. As far as we know there were at least 4 boys. John, James,Michael and
Robert. James was my husband's great grandfather and we believe he was born
around 1844. We do not have mother's maiden name. I can't seem to find any
boats to Newfoundland to get the pass list. They all seem to have gone to
other parts of Canada and the States. Any help would be greatly
  appreciated.

  Thanks,

  Denise
