|[TSL] POLISH RUSSIAN IMMIGRANT - BROSTOSKI|
|Vivian Simmonds <email@example.com> on 10/27/2012|
I am at a loss to know how to trace an ancestor who arrived in the UK sometime before 1875 when he married in Sheffield.
All I know of him is his name (Maurice Brostoski), his approximate year of birth (1849), and his place of birth (shown as Poland Russia on one census, and Poland on the others). He may have settled in Sheffield immediately 'on landing' although as his wife came from Sheffield it could be through her that he settled there and had worked/lived somewhere else before his marriage. I do not find him in the 1871 census and perhaps this closes the window a little for his date of arrival in the UK.
I have no idea which route he took to arrive in this country or indeed whether 'Maurice' is the name he adopted when he settled here.
He is most definitely my brick wall and I would be grateful for any help in pointing me in the right direction to finding where he came from and when he arrived in the UK. I have not found any other members of the same generation as Maurice (or earlier) either in the census or burial registers in the whole of the UK.
