Re: [TSL] PS Re: John Gough, Benjamin and Thomas BRICK

Thanks to Elizabeth, Sue, Pete and Marg. To have both Ben and John overnight when previously I had nothing for their emigrations is absolutely great.

So much more information to fit into the family tree.

I never thought of looking in Quebec for the 1871 census as I knew that Ben and Thomas were in Toronto at that time as their children were born there.

The John G. who was crossed off the 1871 John Gough census of Canada was the young son they left behind in Herefordshire with an Aunt, he was baptised in Hereford in June 1863, I didn't have a birth year or baptism for Elizabeth so thought she was born in Canada as well. Now it curiously seems they might have had two early children, both born in 1863, but left the son behind. I thought that William was born in Canada, but now know he was an infant when they left. I know John Gough Brick the second eventually travelled to Canada and was married in 1889 in York, Toronto.

Pete thanks for the details of the 1861 census, I couldn't find it, but that might be because I was looking in Worcestershire and Herefordshire rather than London. It also clears up another mystery for me as I couldn't find his wife Emma in these counties either, so will now look in London.

I appreciate all the answers I received - thank you all so very much.

Eveline

Marj and Eveline,

There is also an infant ... just initials, looks like W.R.

Sue

There is more in the 1871 census for Compton, Quebec. ... W.R. stands
for William Reginald

Rev. John Brick 34
Emma Marie Brick 29
Elizabeth Marie Brick 8
William R Brick 7
Thomas A Brick 4
Charles B Brick 2
Emm R Brick 1/12

Curiously there is a John G. aged 9 on the image, with a line struck
through.

Sue
