Valerie, take any mention of "widow" or "widower" with a bag of salt,
I know of all too many who claimed that status who were divorced or
still married but not together. He could have gone almost anywhere,
but it might pay for you to check the UK outbound and inbound lists,
especially if there is family still in the UK. I have found a good
number of men who were absent from census etc who popped up there.
