Hi Dan
The only one that fits your description I can find is The Italian passenger
/ cargo vessel Volturno on a voyage from Rotterdam to New York caught fire
and sank in the Atlantic 1912 with the loss of 136 lives.
I posted links to a web site about the incident some time back but can't
find it now.
