[TSL] German ancestor to Liverpool from Hamburg?
"Frederick Englebert" <frederickenglebert@bigpond.com> on 04/10/2013

Hello List,
Looking for my Greatgrandfather, EMIL DAVID ENGELBRECHT, born in Hamburg it is said on a Home Office list of "enemy aliens", (he was supposedly interned at the outbreak of WW1), on 21-04-1850. Though researchers tell me that there are no birth/baptism records for my people for Hamburg for the years 1850/1866!
Emil married in Liverpool 1879, so I assume he travelled at about 16 years old, say 1866/70.
He was a ships Steward/cook, his father was Georg(e) deceased before 1879, a Customs Officer.
Emil married Sarah Wylie (neeLangshaw) and had amongst several others, my Grandfather David Samuel Engelbrecht.
The name has changed down the years from Engelbrecht, up to 1888, Engelbert up to 1925, and now Englebert. Most of the later changes due, I think, to transcription arrors.
Emil died in Pontefract, Yorkshire, in 1939 as David Engelbert.
I cannot find details of my people on any Ships List so I am hoping someone on your list can guide me in this matter

Many thanks

Here's hoping

Frederick
