June 27, 1739, On Monday was held a Board of Amiralty when there lordships 
were pleased to appoint Capt William Smith to be captain of HMS Lyon in the 
room of Captain Hilderlley
Admiralty office, Aug 11th 1740, It is the direction of my Lord Commssioners 
of the Admiralty, that the seamen belonging to HMShips, the Victory, Boyn 
and the Lyon, who are absent from those ships, do immediately repair to 
Portsmouth, where such of them as belongs to the Victory and Boyn are to go 
on board the Victory, and the rest on board their proper ship the Lyon, on 
pain of losing their wages, and being prosecuted as deserters, J. Burcher
September 20, 1740, The officers of the pay office with the money and books 
of HMS Lyon are gone to Portsmouth to pay the wages due to her Company to 
the 30th June last
August 25, 1743, London Aug 25th, HMS Lyon sailed from Port Royal the 20th 
June together with a fire-ship and 52 sail of Merchant Ships, 40 of which 
were for England, the rest for North America
