John

In the London Times of May 15, 1939 is an ad which partyly reads:
For Hobart Town, to sail with immediate despatch, having more than
two-thirds of her cargo engaged, the remarable fast-sailing barque
GRATITUDE, A. 1, now coppered and copper-fastened, burden 350 tons,
William Robertson, Commander, lying in the London Docks....ends with
...apply to the commander on board; or to Gumm, Lidgett, and Nicol, 4
King's Arms-buildings, Change-alley, Cornhill.

There is an ad on Aug 24, 1839 for the Union going to Sydney; Oct 28,
1839 for the England;Dec 7, 1839 for the Fortitude, etc.By 1848 there
are sometimes two ads for two different ships.

By the 1850's the ads read
John Lidgett and Sons' Line of Australian Packets--For Port Adelaide
direct, the fine fast-sailing ship GEsina(name on a fold in paper)...

There is an item Feb 24, 1854 "Court of Queen's Bench" which has as
defendants "Mr J. Ledgett (of the firm of Messrs. Lidgett and Sons,
shipowners in Billiter-street) and a Mr Seaman, of Bridlington, in
Yorkshire.

If you can get to a library which subscribes to the Time online there
is lots of info.

Regards..

Marj
