Basics - Help!

Hello,

I was wondering if someone could tell me what the first steps would be for
discovering which ship(s) my Gggrandfather, William HYND sailed on.

Although he immigrated to Pennslyvania in 1903, he traveled several times
back and forth from Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland to the US before then (in
fact his friends in Scot. called him "Yankee Bill" because of this). I do
have a copy of his naturalization certificate which has him naturalized in
1920 (though the 1920 census says it was 1919). He worked in coal mines in
PA and allegedly even helped to rescue people during the 1889 Johnstown
Flood. The family settled in Graham Twp, Clearfield County, PA when they
came here permanently in 1903.

I would really love to be able to trace and record all his TransAtlantic
travels, but I have no idea where to even begin. A family member said that
one time William sailed into NYC from Scotland, but due to the "quota" being
filled, he wasn't allowed off the ship and had to sail to Boston & get off
there, but I have no date or ship names for this. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Haggis & Kissis,
Lori
