Judging from the newspapers that year they had a very early winter 
storm and there were many comments about it and wrecks reported. 
There was also a report of a late hurricane going up the coast so 
that might be the reason for the terrible gales which the ships were 
reporting. The north Atlantic is never a pleasant sail in the late fall.
